Izumohinomisaki lighthouse rises from a cliff at the westernmost end of Shimane peninsula.
It was installed in 1903 and is 43.65 meters high. It is 63.30 meters high from the sea surface to the overhead of the light tower, and it is the highest in Japan.
Because of its history and high cultural value, it was selected as one of the "Top 100 Historical Lighthouses of the World" in 1998 and as a registered tangible cultural property of Japan in 2013.
